ABSTRACTS SUBMISSIONS HAVE NOW CLOSED.

All abstracts submitted are subject to review by the Scientific Programme Committee (SPC) and will, after acceptance, be assigned to a platform presentation, or poster presentation. The SPC reserves the right to contact authors, if required to clarify the nature of intended presentations prior to making decisions regarding their acceptance.

  • Abstracts will not be accepted if they have been previously published as a full paper.
  • Abstracts will not be accepted if they have been presented elsewhere more than one year before the meeting date.
  • Selected abstracts will be published with a citation in the Journal of Neurology, Neurosurgery and Psychiatry.
  • Abstracts should contain no references unless absolutely necessary and where they are, no more than 2 references. These will count towards the word count.
  • Abstracts are to be provided in English.

Types of Presentations

Platform (Oral) Presentation - If your abstract is accepted as a platform presentation you will be allocated a session (time to be advised) within the program.
Poster Presentation - If your abstract is accepted as a poster, you will be required to produce a poster which follows the required poster guidelines.

Abstracts will be further categorised into;

  • Original Research
  • Industry Sponsored Clinical Trials

Posters are to be displayed in the poster display area (exhibition hall) for the duration of the meeting.

Poster will be grouped into specific themes. Presenting authors will be required to be present at their poster(s) during the Poster Viewing Session on Wednesday, 22nd May between 5.30-6.30pm, and if shortlisted, give a 3 min presentation.

Posters without presenting author present at the time, will not be considered for the awards.

Format for Abstracts

Selected (previously non-published) abstracts will be published in the Journal of Neurology, Neurosurgery and Psychiatry (JNNP).

The body of the abstract should be structured with following headings in bold

Background/Objectives

Methods

Results

Conclusions/Decision

Any abbreviations should be defined where first mentioned.

Abstracts will be published as submitted without any modification. Abstracts that don’t follow these instructions will not be considered for publication. Examples of abstracts can be seen in JNNP.

  • Abstracts should be a summary of the paper and must not exceed 250 words not including the title (except if applying for the Leonard Cox Award).
  • Do not include titles or degrees.
  • Abstracts should contain no references unless absolutely necessary and where they are, no more than 2 references. These will count towards the word count.
  • Check spelling and grammar.
  • Present sufficient data to support conclusions – it is unsatisfactory to use statements such as “data will be presented” or “results will be discussed”.

Failure to observe these requirements will exclude the abstract from consideration.

We understand that some Case Reports are unable to follow the above format. Therefore, when submitting your abstract, please ensure you submit it as a Case Report.

Note: case reports should include a literature review as part of the abstract rather than submitting a separate abstract.

Presentation at the Annual Scientific Meeting (ASM) and Registration

All presenters must register to attend the ASM and are responsible for their own travel, accommodation and registration expenses. A condition of acceptance is that at least one author presents at the ASM. A non-author can not present the abstract.
